Our Journey

Our Journey Forward
One of the defining parts of our team culture is our commitment to growth beyond the exam room – not just in what we do, but especially in who we are becoming together.
Since 2018, Homer Eyecare has invested in an annual international team training—not as a reward or vacation, but as a dedicated time to pause and reflect; intentionally shaping our future as a cohesive team.
We have traveled to places like Colombia, Spain, Kenya, Morocco, and New Zealand—just to name a few.
These journeys help us step out of our day-to-day so we together better understand where we are – and thoughtfully decide where we are going.
Why We Choose the Journey
We believe real growth happens when familiar assumptions are challenged. Dr. Peter often shares a well-known Mark Twain quote:
“It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.”
Experiencing a different culture, language, and way of life pushes us beyond what we think we know. What once felt certain becomes open to question, and our perspective widens.
This shift helps us think differently, communicate more thoughtfully, and approach both our work and our lives with greater awareness, compassion and empathy. Growth like that can’t always happen inside the same four walls.

What This Journey Is – and What It is Not
This is not a vacation.
Each international training includes a full week of structured learning, focused on both personal and professional development. Together, we spend time strengthening our team culture and communication, deepening leadership and collaboration skills, reflecting on personal and professional growth, and setting realistic short-term and long-term goals for the company but also for ourselves as individuals. The setting may change, but the purpose is always the same: to align, to grow, and to move forward with intention.
Who We Become Along the Way
Learning together in a new environment strengthens our team in ways traditional training cannot. We laugh, cry, and adventure together. We become so close that those moments stay cherished in our hearts forever. These are the moments when real teams are born. Traveling and learning side-by-side builds trust, deepens connection, and brings us closer—not just as colleagues, but as humans. It sharpens our ability to listen, adapt, and support one another, and those skills carry directly into how we work together every day.
What We Bring Back With Us
Each year, we return home more than shared memories. We return with new skills, deeper connection and a clearer focus and sense of direction – namely, a wider lens on what is possible for ourselves, our team and the community we serve.
